Camp Necon’s Anti-Harassment Policy

MISSION STATEMENT:

CAMP NECON is a safer space for LGBTQ+ folks, BIPOC groups, writers, readers, professionals, amateurs and fans, and almost everyone else.

THE POLICY:

While we have always stated “what happens at Necon stays at Necon,” CAMP NECON believes everyone should feel safe during the conference. We will help maintain this by not tolerating behavior which lacks consent generally, which may include non-consensual touching or verbal harassment. If someone or something makes you feel uncomfortable or unsafe, no matter how minor it may seem, please do not stay silent. You can report it to any CAMP NECON staff member and they will work with you to try to make sure it does not happen again and that you continue to feel safe at our con.

CAMP NECON has a ZERO TOLERANCE POLICY for harassment of any kind, including but not limited to abuse based on: race, color, national origin, gender, gender identity, gender presentation, sexual orientation, age, body size, disability, appearance, religion, citizenship, and pregnancy.

Harassment includes but is not limited to: stalking, verbal or physical intimidation, offensive comments about any of the above categories in the paragraph prior, physical assault and/or battery, bathroom policing, unwanted physical contact, and unwelcome physical attention.

If a camper attendee chooses to break these policies, they may be removed from the con temporarily or for the remainder of the weekend. A credible and substantiated allegation of violation of this policy against you may also result in a restriction of your attendance for a year or years after, or a permanent ban from attending CAMP NECON, pursuant to the severity of the alleged violation and the judgment of the CAMP NECON executive board.

Our policy applies to all attendees, including featured creators and also ourselves, staff and volunteers. This Anti-Harassment Policy is in effect at CAMP NECON now and going forward without limitation. We will publicize updates and revisions in the event any are made.

CAMP NECON has grown over the years as people and an entity, and we will continue to evolve for the betterment of ourselves, our community, and the greater literary and artistic industry. Thank you to all of you for helping us build and better our amazing CAMP NECON community.

Camp Necon strictly adheres to the WEAPONS-FREE CAMPUS POLICY of our hosts, St. Anselm College. PLEASE CLICK HERE for more (specifically, item #12 under “Applicability of Policies to On and Off Campus Behavior.” Thank you.

Our Privacy Policy

Camp Necon will not share, rent, or sell any attendee’s personal information (i.e. their mailing address, email address, phone number, etc.), collected by registering online, with any third parties. Moreover, our online registration form uses RegFox (a service of Webconnex) to process transactions and therefore does not collect credit card numbers; to quote RegFox’s Privacy Policy page —

Webconnex acts as a data processor on behalf of its Clients. Clients serve as the data controllers for all Customer Data collected through pages, forms, or workflows built using Webconnex products. This means Clients decide what information they collect, how long they retain it, how they use it, and the lawful basis for collecting it. Webconnex does not determine or influence what information Clients choose to collect from their attendees, donors, registrants, or ticket buyers. Customer Data always belongs to the Client, not Webconnex.

Webconnex processes Customer Data only as instructed by the Client and solely to provide, maintain, secure, and support the Services. We do not sell, share, trade, or use Customer Data for advertising, marketing, or promotional purposes. We do not cross-market events or organizations, do not solicit attendees or donors, and do not contact Customers except when a Client specifically directs us to or when required by law. Customer Data is never combined with information from other Clients, and Webconnex does not create behavioral profiles, perform targeted advertising, or infer characteristics about Customers.

The saying “What happens at Necon stays at Necon” actually predates the similar Las Vegas ad campaign slogan. Of course, that means it also predates the age of smart phones and social media. As it is impossible for us to police the online activity of our attendees, Camp Necon makes no assurances and accepts no responsibility whatsoever should your name and / or image be posted online in reference to the convention.

The Camp Necon Committee is happy to omit any attendee’s name from our online Campers List should they prefer not to be listed. If you do not want your name on this website, please simply contact us and request that it not be posted.
